We are here today at Crusader Caravans to discuss a number of points that might make your next tour of Australia a little more comfortable for you – and for your best friend.
A little bit of preparation can go a long way when it comes to mapping out an extended holiday travelling with pets. If frequent stops at caravan parks along the way are going to be a part of your adventure, it’s a good idea to call ahead and see what particular destinations are pet-friendly as there are holiday parks that will allow your pets to stay on site and parks that wont.
Similarly, if free-camping is going to be an integral part of your trip, it’s important to find out ahead of time what the local polices are regarding pets as some popular locations like National parks will not allow them.
Before you depart on your journey, spend a little time familiarising your pet with your Caravan and set up an area that your pet will recognise as home, their usual bedding and some favourite toys are a great way to settle your pet.
Another good tip when you arrive at your destination is to spend time with your pet getting them to sniff out the area, they will quickly adopt their territory in defence of your RV.
As much as we love our little mates, we can’t be by our pets side all day every day on the road. There are going to be times when you’ll need to leave the little fellas inside your RV unattended.
Pets are like children and should never be left alone inside a caravan as it can get rather hot and uncomfortable in there even on
overcast days.
If you have to leave your best friend for a while, ensure they are well tethered outside and they have comfortable bedding, suitable shelter and loads of fresh water available.
Which leads to another important thing to remember when travelling with pets, and that’s exercise. Taking your dog or cat outside for regular walks not only helps keep them active and fit, but it will be good for you too, after all isn’t RV’ing all about fresh air and the great outdoors?
Taking our pets on the road with us when we travel is a great way to share our leisure and lifestyle with those special friends that make it all worthwhile, and with a Crusader Caravan you’ll never have to spend extra on pet sitters or kennels because your rolling residence becomes their home away from home too.
